Traders reported a flurry of activity just before the Chicago market opened mainly in the soft oils and lauric oils. Closing prices were mainly lower following a turn around on the Chicago markets. Chicago soybean futures opened higher, but later turned lower. Soy oil however was down from the word go. However, traders said they had little confidence in these levels and would not be surprised to see higher prices when they return to work on Thursday morning. "The funds have got too much money at stake to let the market fall just yet, regardless of what the fundamentals are," said one. Dutch soy oil closed 0.75 to 1.50 guilders lower after Mar traded at 104.75 and 105 guilders, Mar/Apr at 105.50, May/Jul at 106.50, Aug/Oct at 107.25 and Nov/Jan at 108.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill in mainly three way switching. Rape oil sellers were one guilder down at the close after Mar traded at 104.75 guilders, Apr at 105.50, May/Jul at 106.50, Aug/Oct at 106 and Nov/Jan at 107 and 106.50 guilders in three way switching. Rising stocks and slow Malaysian exports weighed on the palm oil market with crude palm oil $2.50 to $7.50 lower and products $2.50 to $5 down with no further business reported during the afternoon. Coconut oil sellers were $5 to $17.50 lower after Mar/Apr traded at $745 and Apr/May at $735 a tonne cif. Feb/Mar also traded at $750 in a switch with Apr/May at $740 a tonne. Palmkernel oil offers were $5 down after Mar/Apr traded at $732.50 a tonne. Mar/Apr traded at $732.50 in a switch with May/Jun at $727.50 a tonne.
