Cash to threes backwardation widened about $40 from early morning levels to $195/$200, while tomorrow/next day was traded at the LME limit of $23. Continued tightness in nearby dates was helping boost values, traders said. "There were only bidders and no lenders, which is going to push up the cash price," one said. Prices easily brushed past Tuesday's high of $2,208, but turned back at $2,215, where 10- and 30-day moving averages formed a downward cross. Copper ended the morning kerb at $2,211, compared to $2,204 at Tuesday's late kerb close. The February option declarations passed routinely with little noticeable effect on pre-market or ring trading. March and April declarations were likely to spark more activity, traders said. One trader said the market was still wary about the recent hikes in LME stocks and anticipated prices would stick to a $2,170-$2,240 trading range for the time being. Stocks rose 8,750 tonnes on Tuesday. "The market is going to wait and see. People want to know whether metal will continue flocking to LME warehoues even after the back eases," he added. Aluminium was barely changed in lacklustre trading, ending the morning kerb $1 higher at $1,618. It was still far away from the $1,635-$1,645 area analysts said it needed to negate to make progress towards recent highs at $1,650. However, $1,600 remained important resistance and was expected to hold. Nickel attempted to push higher but stalled at $7,735, an area which has stalled rallies for the past two days. It edged back to $7,700, which was $25 up from Tuesday's kerb close. The market, which has soared some $600 since January 29, was getting a boost from technical upwards pressure despite being overbought, analysts said, with the upside target at $7,820. Zinc, also a big mover last week, continued to consolidate in a narrow price range. It was last at $1,171, up just $2. Lead hibernated at $677, barely changed from $674/$675.. Tin was last quoted unchanged at $5850/60. Alloy was last at $1,527/30, up $2. FRANCUSKI METALI - 05. veljače 1997. BAKAR FFR/100 KG 1400 KOSITAR FFR/100 KG 3799 CINK EL.
