With its main pricing influence taking a back seat, the tops market was waiting for raw wool auctions later in the week to offer fresh direction, they said. Producers said the lack of new business available was beginning to take its toll as orders were being outpaced by deliveries. The near-term outlook was clouded further by the strength of sterling which sellers in both the domestic and export markets said had progressively reduced their competitiveness. 131056 MET feb 97
