Hopes that last Thursday's 28-cent leap in the Australian eastern market indicator would draw out new business locally were not realised, they said. "The main holding factor on prices is resistance from retail buyers which is pretty firm at the moment. Its checking anyone willing to try out higher bids," one market source said. Prices for all styles were generally quoted unchanged. The market also failed to respond to currency movements, traders said. But several sources were optimistic that raw crossbreds would follow merinos higher and that this could move Bradford price by the end of the week. 211100 MET jan 97
