The new section is part of a 52 km section linking Sarajevo and Zenica. The new section cost EUR 43 million and construction took five years. Another 10 km section has to be built to completely link Sarajevo and Zenica, which should be completed by the end of 2014.
The completion of a 10 km section between Bijaca and Ljubuski on the Croatian border is expected in two and a half years, including a modern border crossing for the export of plant and animal products.
The construction of 330 km of motorway through Bosnia on the pan-European corridor that should connect Budapest and Ploce in southern Croatia was financed from the Bosnian budget and loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.
