As of two weeks ago, the Barracuda Tour Company offers interested women, for the price of US$ 600, a stay of four days in the Bosnian capital, including three nights and an abortion at a private clinic, Banja Luka's Nezavisne Novine daily reported earlier in the week.
Agency owner Cem Polatoglu has said that 16 women have chosen the arrangement in the last fortnight and that Bosnia and Herzegovina is only one of several destinations with such an offer.
"When something is prohibited or difficult to do, a solution is always found," he was quoted as saying, adding that tour operators merely took advantage of what the market offered.
The Barracuda Tour Company offers the same arrangement in Cyprus, Crimea and Great Britain, where it is most expensive at over $1,800, whereas in Crimea it costs $370.
The clinics performing abortions in said countries require no special documentation other than the test results of a Turkish physician.
Abortion is not illegal in Turkey but young women opt to do it abroad because of the environment they live in and social stereotypes.
"They go to abort abroad because they don't want to be judged by family or friends," Polatoglu was quoted as saying.
