EBRD increasing investments in Western Balkans

Autor: half
SARAJEVO, Aug 23 (Hina) - The Western Balkans remains a priority region for investments from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and up to EUR 800 million will be invested there this year, the head of the EBRD office to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Libor Krkoska, has said.

Sarajevo's Dnevni Avaz daily quoted him as saying in Thursday's issue that during the global economic crisis, the EBRD had considerably increased the financing of East European countries and that it planned to increase the financing of private sector projects.

The Western Balkans is one of our priority areas and its share in the EBRD's financing should continue to grow to up to EUR 800 million this year, said Krkoska.

He said the EBRD was interested in financing the construction of a Corridor Vc motorway through Bosnia.

He said a presentation would be held in London in September for concessionaires interested in building a 50 km section of that motorway across the Bosnian Serb entity.

The EBRD believes the concession model can be used for some sections crossing the Federation entity as well.

This model could help link Sarajevo with Croatia and European motorways in a few years, it has been estimated.

The EBRD is willing to consider the financing of those projects when concessions will be granted through international tenders, Krkoska said, adding that the bank worked closely together with the European Commission in an effort to ensure the full amount necessary to complete the whole motorway which should connect Budapest and the southern Croatian seaport of Ploce.
