PARIS, Feb 14 (Hina) - President Tudjman's special envoy,
Ambassador Miomir Zuzul, today met Premier Balladur's chief
foreign-policy advisor, Bernard de Montferrand.
The talks focused on the current situation in Croatia and
possible consequences of Croatia's decision to end the UNPROFOR
mandate.
Montferrand showed understanding for Croatia's problems and
the need to resolve the crisis in the occupied areas. But he was
concerned that the departure of the blue helmets might spark off an
escalation of fighting.
It was therefore essential that all the sides come to the
negotiating table with all the maps, Monferrand said, referring to
France's initiative to call another international conference on
former Yugoslavia.
Zuzul explained Croatia's views, stressing that Croatia's
decision (to end the UNPROFOR mandate) was not aimed at rekindling
war, which was not in the least in Croatia's interest.
On the contrary, Croatia wanted the international community to
resolve the crisis by peaceful and effective means, Zuzul said.
Croatia would uphold any solution which provided for the
reintegration of the occupied areas, he concluded.
