ZAGREB, 12 Oct (Hina) - The Croatian Reconstruction and Development
Minister Jure Radic on Saturday received the U.N. Special
Rapporteur on Human Rights, Elizabeth Rehn. #K#
Rehn informed Radic about her impressions after her visit to
the Croatian Danubian area.
Minister Radic informed his guest about Croatia's efforts in
carrying out the reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area and
problems it was encountering.
One billion dollars had been spent so far for the
reconstruction of areas destroyed by the war, Radic said, adding
that the total war damage in Croatia was estimated at 27 billion
dollars. Almost all assets had been secured from the state budget
since there had been no concrete financial aid from abroad yet,
Radic said.
Since the beginning of 1996, Croatia had secured the return of
some 60,000 refugees, Radic said.
Rehn said she was satisfied because she had been able to
personally gather information on the situation in the Croatian
Danubian area.
