ZAGREB, 28 Sept (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic
tonight stated he hoped his presentation of Croatia 'as a country
which is oriented towards peace, development and Euro-Atlantic
integration processes' had been received well in the United Nations
headquarters in New York. Granic stated this before leaving from
New York, where he participated in this year's U.N. General
Assembly session. During his visit to the United Nations, Granic
met some 30 diplomats accredited in the U.N. #L#
Speaking about Croatia's priorities, Granic stressed that 'the
first task would be to reach agreement on the expiry of the mandate
of the U.N. Transitional Administration in eastern Slavonia
(UNTAES)'.
Granic expressed hope that the reintegration of the Croatian
Danubian area into Croatia's legal and constitutional system would
help 'establish safety in the whole region'.
The reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area should have a
positive effect on the overall peace process in Bosnia-Herzegovina
as well, he added.
The second most important task was the Bosnian peace process,
Granic said, adding that the recent meeting between Presidents
Tudjman and Izetbegovic had been described as very positive by
major international factors.
Another important task was Croatia's integration in Euro-
Atlantic institutions, Granic said, adding that Croatia's
integration into first such institution - the Council of Europe -
would happen very soon.
