ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's House of
Representatives on Thursday concluded a discussion on the Bill on
Changes and Amendments to the Law on Elementary Education, proposed
by representatives Slavko Linic and Nikola Ivanis.
Ivanis said that the aim of the Bill was to right the
injustice and lack of logic in appointing and acquitting elementary
school headmasters, which was currently under jurisdiction of the
Croatian Ministry of Sport and Education. According to the Bill,
elementary school headmasters would be appointed by a
representative body of local self-government units, with the
Ministry's consent, Ivanis said.
The Bill was opposed by representatives of the Legislation and
Education Committees and the government.
The Bill was endorsed by opposition representatives, whereas
the parliamentary bench of the Croatian Democratic Union voted
against its passing.
