ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) - The basic principle of the proposed customs
rate was the protection of domestic, especially agricultural
production, Croatian Deputy Economy Minister, Jasna Boric, said on
Friday at a session of the Croatian parliament's House of
Representatives, explaining the Final Bill on Customs Rate, which
the representatives had been discussing in a third reading.
"If the Bill is adopted, we would terminate our year-long
efforts in setting a new customs rate, thus making the Croatian
tariff system equal to the international surroundings", said Boric,
adding that setting a new customs rate was an important premise for
continued talks with the World Trade Organization.
The discussion on the above mentioned Bill was concluded, and
the voting will take place this afternoon.
Later in the session the Croatian Lower House concluded a
discussion on a Bill on Amendments to the Act on Roads, forwarded
for urgent procedure by the Club of Representatives of the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ). This Bill should enable faster, simpler and
more rational expropriation in cases of building motorways and
highways.
