PRISTINA, Dec 21 (Hina) - Albanians, who make up 90 per cent of the
population in Kosovo, a region in southern Yugoslavia, on Sunday
boycotted the presidential election in Serbia for the fourth time
in the last three months.
According to the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo, the largest party
of Kosovo Albanians, Kosovo Albanians are not interested in the
Serbian presidential. They think the election is a foreign election
to them, the party said, adding Kosovo Albanians were getting ready
for their own presidential and parliamentary elections.
These elections should, according to some announcements, be held
early next year. It is expected Kosovo Albanians leader Ibrahim
Rugova should schedule them next week, after consultations with the
Coordination Committee of Albanian Political Parties in Kosovo.
Even though Albanians did not vote, Serbian authorities point out
that 934,443 citizens with the right to vote are registered in
Kosovo, that the voting is proceeding well, and that 981 polling
stations have been opened in three election units.
