DECISION ON DATE FOR ELECTIONS TO BE MADE ON WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - The Croatian Council of Defence and National Security (VONS), on Tuesday held a session under the chairmanship of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, the President's office said in a statement. At the session which considered current issues, it was proposed that the President make decision tomorrow on the date of the holding of the elections for the Croatian Parliament House of Counties in the entire Republic of Croatia, including the Croatian Danubian area under the Transitional Administration, UNTAES. It was also proposed that the Government call elections for the representative bodies of local government and self-government, in line with the holding of the elections for the House of Counties. The VONS considered the procedure of completion of the process of peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area, which should end on July 15 this year and about which firm agreement was reached at yesterday's session between the President of the Republic and the Transitional Administrator in the Croatian Danubian area, General Jacques Klein. At the session the VONS expressed concern about distressing events in Mostar and the (Bosnian) Federation. It was suggested that representatives of Croatia, which is a signatory of the Washington and Dayton accords, call upon both federal partners to show common sense and to solve each misunderstanding through negotiations in the spirit of those accords, said the statement.
