"Both sides agreed that the elections should take place under Croatian
rules, taking into consideration certain specifications," Mrkonjic said
after the talks.
He added that Croatian representatives had submitted to UNTAES
representatives all materials needed for the preparation and holding of the
elections.
The talks had focused on coordination between UNTAES, which was
responsible for the elections in the Croatian Danubian area, and sthe
Croatian Electoral Commission, which was organizing elections in other
parts of Croatia. The most important thing was to coordinate everything
well, Wall said.
Asked about electoral lists in the Croatian Danubian area, Wall said
that voters were being registered there now.
Wall recalled that only people with the Croatian citizenship
certificate and an ID card would be able to vote.
UNTAES would organize local electoral commissions in the Danubian area
which would consist of representatives of all parts of the local population,
and would make it possible for all political parties to present their
candidates, Wall said.
This was the first meeting between the Croatian Electoral commission
representatives and UNTAES representatives. The next meeting will take place
on 19 February.
