Stressing that the signing of the Erdut Agreement had extended the
uncertainty of the Croatian displaced, ZPH President Mato Simic said that
the displaced did not understate the good sides of the reintegration process
but were warning of its faults..
The displaced were not satisfied with the Government Letter of Intent
and U.N. Security Council Presidential Statement and the ZPH administrative
committee decided to call a special conference under the title 'Elections in
the Croatian Danubian area are the last battle of the displaced before their
return'.
Speaking about future tasks in the reintegration process, Simic said
that the Government had to enable each displaced person to take part in the
elections. He asked the Government and the U.N. Transitional Administration
in Eastern Slavonia (UNTAES) to remove war criminals from the area before
the elections, adding that the number of Croat and other non-Serb officers
in the Transitional Police Force should be increased.
The ZPH conference is attended by Parliament Vice Presidents Jadranka
Kosor and Vladimir Seks, President Tudjman's Deputy Chief Of Staff Vesna
Skare-Ozbolt, presidential advisor on humanitarian issues Slobodan Lang,
officials in the Government office for the U.N.-administered area,
parliamentary representatives and officials in local administrative bodies.
