INT $ ENT - GRANIC ZAGREB, 28 Jan (Hina) - Croatia expected that the U.N. Security Council would on Wednesday adopt a presidential statement supporting the Croatian Government Letter of Intent on the completion of peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danubian area, Croatian Foreign Minister Mate Granic told Hina on Tuesday. #L# 'Croatia expects that the Security Council will tomorrow adopt a presidential statement which will support the Government Letter of Intent and the letter by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan', Granic said. 'It means to support the idea of implementing the elections in the Croatian Danubian area and elections in the whole of Croatia on the same day, 16 March', Granic said. The Security Council will accept an American-Italian draft statement which supports the Croatian plan and deadlines for the completion of peaceful reintegration. The draft statement is supported by the United States, Italy, Germany and all relevant Western countries, Croatian diplomatic sources said. Russia proposed its draft presidential statement which is in favor of Serbs from the Croatian Danubian area, who also sent a letter to the Security Council with their opinion of the reintegration process, the same sources said. Among other things, the Russian draft statement includes support both for the Croatian government Letter of Intent and the letter of Serbs from the Danubian area. It also asks that elections be held after all conditions for their implementation have been met and that one county be formed in the area. The Security Council would not accepted the Russian proposal. Croatia did not expect Russia to veto the presidential statement on the Croatian Danubian area because of the refusal, Granic said in his statement for Hina. (hina) rm 281333 MET jan 97
