MOSTAR, Feb 9 (Hina) - A deputy defence minister of the Croat-
Moslem Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Jozo Leutar, on Sunday
announced that 10,500 policemen would be deployed in all the ten
cantons of the Bosnian Federation.
Leutar said in an interview with the Mostar weekly 'Horizont',
that a new uniform for policemen was being prepared. He added that
the uniform would be "identical in a design with and have a similar
colour of uniforms of western countries, including the Republic of
Croatia."
He explained that federal police cars would be white with a
line in the colour of the uniform and a sign 'POLICIJA' (police).
Commenting on the relationship between the bodies of the
authority of the Bosnian Federation and canton's police, Leutar
said that the Federation's bodies had no power over canton's
police.
"There is no federal police in the cantons, but there are
cantonal police in the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina," said the
Leutar citing Federation Constitution Article 4 which said that
cantons had all power which was not explicitly entrusted to the
federal authority. Cantons were particularly responsible for
establishing and controlling police forces that would have the same
uniforms with the canton insignia, according to this Article.
