ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - The Croatian Independent Unions' Association (SSSH) on Tuesday called on all its members to vote on the forthcoming elections for those who would know how to represent and protect their interests. "Every party
which has a programme which includes the unions' interests will have our support and so our call does not concern one particular party," SSSH president Davor Juric told a news conference in Zagreb on Tuesday, adding that the SSSH was especially interested in local elections because at that level, the unions could influence for example, the reduction of municipal taxes or payments for municipal services.

Juric added that the SSSH had already talked about the elections with
the Croatian Social Liberal Party (HSLS) and Croatian People's Party (HNS)
and announced talks with the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and
Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS).
Speaking about economic trends in Croatia, Juric said that during
1996, the industrial production had ceased to fall and construction and
tourism had livened. However, in his opinion, the production and labour
force in Croatia were not being utilised to their full capacity, and the
standard had visibly decreased.
