ZAGREB, Jan 10 (Hina) - Members of the Croatian Textile and Leather Industry Employers' Association initiated an action of "Closing Down Factories" which lasted about 15 minutes and thus symbolically pointed out possible serious
economic and social repercussions of the collapse of this field of economy. According to preliminary information, 116 employers took part in the action. The companies included in the action employed 41,500 persons, main director of the Croatian Employees' Association Zeljko Ivancevic and president of the Association Croatian Textile and Leather Industry, Martin Stubicar, told an extraordinary news conference on Friday.

Leather Industry Employers' Association initiated an action of
"Closing Down Factories" which lasted about 15 minutes and
thus symbolically pointed out possible serious economic and
social repercussions of the collapse of this field of economy.
According to preliminary information, 116 employers took
part in the action.
The companies included in the action employed 41,500
persons, main director of the Croatian Employees' Association
Zeljko Ivancevic and president of the Association Croatian
Textile and Leather Industry, Martin Stubicar, told an

Stubicar said that the employers were supported by the
Croatian Textile, Leather, Footwear and Rubber Industry Union.
The last several years had marked a significant decrease
in the number of employees in these industries, more than 50
percent of companies in the industry performed with losses and
it was an industry which was still Croatia's largest exporter,
Stubicar said.
He added that every one of the participants in the action
had forwarded a letter to Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa, asking
of the government urgent action in order for the strongest
export branch of Croatia's economy could recuperate.
