ZAGREB, 13 Dec (Hina) - The Union of Croatian Railway Workers filed
a complaint against a decision of the Croatian Supreme Court, which
declared the ongoing strike of the Union of Croatian Railway
Workers illegal, the Union's president Zlatko Pavletic told a press
conference Friday.
The strike continued, Pavletic said. Passenger trains were
running, as well as 20% of freight trains, he said, adding that
negotiations with the Croatian Railways (HZ) management had not
continued. #L#
Attorney Darko Marzic, who is representing the Union, said the
complaint had been filed because of the wrong application of
substantive law and wrongly established facts.
According to the Supreme Court decision, the strike is illegal
because during the strike the strikers did not respect an order by
Transport Minister on minimal railway traffic, Marzic said.
He added that other reasons for the strike were legal, which
was confirmed by the Court's decision as well.
According to the Union's complaint, there are objective
reasons why the Union did not implement the Transport Minister's
decision temporarily - because of the violation of strikers' rights
and a threat to railway traffic security. At the time of the main
discussion at the Supreme Court, the Transport Minister's decision
was being implemented, Marzic said.
Pavletic also informed reporters about a letter the general
director of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions
(ICFTU), Bill Jordan, has sent to Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa,
asking him to continue negotiations.
