It is clear that the local Serb authorities had organized a
protest meeting which was attended by some 100 persons, said Chris
Janovski, spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR). The protesters prevented the passage of some 160 Bosniacs
who were to return to their village in the inter-entity separation
zone on the basis of a special procedure.
SFOR spokesman Jan Joosten confirmed that NATO patrols outside
Gajevi had spotted a group of some ten persons wearing Bosnian Serb
police uniforms laying anti-infantry mines and thus violating the
provisions of the Dayton peace agreement. Joosten warned that local
police were not allowed to move in the separation zone without IPTF
escort.
