Ministry representative Margita Mastrovic said Croatia had committed
to reducing sea pollution by 2005 and eliminating it by 2025.
The first stage of pollution reduction will require about EUR870
million, it was said.
Another ministry representative, Mirjana Papafava, said the protection
of the sea had to be stepped up as indicated by the national
environmental protection strategy, the national programme of joining
the European Union, and the European Commission's opinion on Croatia's
membership application, which she added underlined the need of
regulating water supply and the purification of waste water.
