The government had cited security as the reason for proposing the amendments, which GONG described as unjustified.
"Not a single incident posing a threat to security has occurred in St Mark's Square, only peaceful protest rallies at which citizens expressed their dissatisfaction, as is common in democratic countries," the organisation said in a press release.
GONG accused the government of trying to "additionally isolate itself" from the people instead of taking steps to improve communication with the public.
The organisation said that the Law should be changed, but not restrictively.
