ZAGREB, May 16 (Hina) - The election monitoring nongovernmental
organisation GONG said on Monday that Sunday's local elections were held in
line with electoral regulations, although some voter committees did not honour
the electoral procedure and some political parties and independent candidates
did not respect the electoral blackout. GONG said that most
irregularities were eliminated after GONG observers drew attention to them or
in cooperation with competent election commissions.
GONG received more than 200 calls from citizens and observers during
polling day.
The NGO said that the atmosphere at polling stations was tolerant and
democratic, which it added was mainly due to the fact that the State Election
Commission and local election commissions organised the elections properly.
