"In 18 Croatian counties the HSS forms a coalition with the SDP (Social Democratic Party) and other parties, in Krapina-Zagorje and Pozega-Slavonia counties the HSS runs in the election on its own, and in Istria it is in coalition with the HNS (People's Party), the HSLS (Social Liberal Party ) and the LS (Liberal Party). In 54 percent of municipalities and cities it runs in the local elections on its own, in 34 percent it forms coalition and in 11 percent the HSS will not participate in the polls," Tomcic said at a news conference in Sibenik on Wednesday where he and the party leadership presented the party platform for Dalmatia.
Tomcic forecast a low turnout of voters, perhaps even below 50 percent of all eligible voters, adding that it was a political mistake not to enable voters at the coming elections to directly elect mayors and county prefects.
Commenting on the current situation, the HSS chief said that Croatia was "performing poorly both on the home front and abroad".
"The position of the government in relations towards the European Union was insincere and inconsistent, which is why the (membership) talks were postponed," he said among other things.
