Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec, who held a meeting with the union representatives of the dissatisfied workers, said the government would ensure a 20-million job for Mungos mine-clearing specialists until 30 June and secure funds for the payment of an overdue salary.
They also agreed on a draft law on humanitarian de-mining and said that in the next month the two sides would harmonise a text of the national programme for removal of mines from 2005 to 2009.
Although the union representatives hailed the agreement, the protesting workers said they did not believe that the agreement would be honoured, and therefore they continued picketing the government building in St Mark's square in Zagreb.
