ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on
Friday bestowed the Order of the Croatian Morning Star with the image of
Katarina Zrinska on Dr. Christopher Chapman, Professor Jacob Bergsland, and
Professor Michael C. Sinclair for their contribution to the Croatian health
system and for organising humanitarian convoys with aid for Croatia, the
President's Office said in a statement. Between April and December
1995 the Catholic Medical Foundation from the United States, headed by
Christopher Chapman, provided medical equipment and supplies to Zagreb's
"Dubrava" clinic, while professors Sinclair and Bergsland operated on a number
of people suffering from heart diseases at the hospital.
Dr. Bergsland thanked Mesic for the decoration, saying that doctors
from Buffalo, New York, the Dubrava hospital and the clinical hospital in Tuzla
had established professional and friendly ties over the past ten years.
An international symposium called "Modern Treatment of Mitral Valve
Disease" was held at the Dubrava hospital today. The hospital's heart surgery
ward was today awarded ISO 9001/2000 certificate for efforts to improve the
quality of performance and result evaluation.
