The commission thus responded to the assessment of the Croatian Helsinki Committee on Human Rights that simultaneously holding the posts of MP and mayor is morally disputable and contrary to the law on the prevention of conflict of interest.
The commission concluded that the Constitution entitled every citizen to run in elections and that officials do not require anyone's consent for doing so.
If elected, the officials in question will have to choose one post but only in cases when this is required by law, said commission chairman Josip Leko.
