ZAGREB, April 10 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on
Monday met the European Commissioner for Administrative Affairs, Audit and
Anti-Fraud, Siim Kallas, to discuss Croatia's EU membership bid, the expansion
of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), and the situation in the
region, the Croatian government's public relations office said. The
two officials agreed that CEFTA was a good solution for the establishment of a
Southeast European free trade zone because it had already proven to be a good
framework for preparations for EU membership.
Sanader spoke about Croatia's EU accession talks and the process of
adjustment of national legislation and adoption of EU standards in the public
administration and the judiciary.
He underlined Croatia's active role in strengthening regional stability
and cooperation and the need to preserve the prospect of EU membership for all
Southeast European countries.
Kallas said the EC was satisfied with the course of Croatia's EU
membership talks and the pace of its integration with the EU.
