The ICTY reported on Friday that Sweden has accepted a request by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague to conduct an independent audit of the detention unit where Slobodan Milosevic died earlier this month,
"The tribunal is grateful to the Swedish government for its support," the ICTY said in a press release, adding the audit would cover all areas related to the management and administration of the detention unit in the Scheveningen prison.
Milosevic, a former Serbian and Yugoslav president, died in his cell on March 11 of a heart attack, just months before a verdict in his marathon war crimes trial. The 64-year-old suffered from high blood pressure and a heart condition.
Croatian Serb rebel leader Milan Babic, who was convicted of war crimes, committed suicide in the same detention unit a week before Milosevic's death.
