Kovacevic called on MPs to endorse the bill binding the government to declare null and void every case of ownership transformation and privatisation which an audit established to have been unlawful, thus showing the public they would no longer turn a blind eye to unlawfulness.
"That's how members of the public see us, that we turned and are turning a blind eye to the biggest cancer and failure in recent Croatian history," said Kovacevic.
Ownership transformation and privatisation were carried out in the interest of one per cent of those who amassed wealth while Croatia was at war and who nowadays once again deprive workers of their rights while presenting themselves as the biggest fighters for the rule of law, said Kovacevic.
He cited State Audit Office figures showing that as many as 1,556 companies were established to have been unlawfully privatised and only 75 lawfully.
Kovacevic said this called for declaring null and void all unlawful privatisation contracts, attesting the ownership of privatised companies, and seizing unlawfully acquired property.
