BIZOVAC, March 15 (Hina) - Croatian Agriculture Minister Petar
Cobankovic said on Wednesday that the situation in eastern Croatia was under
control after it was established that a dead swan, found last week near the
village of Draz, was infected with an H5N1 virus of avian influenza.
Asked by reporters in the eastern spa of Bizovac where he was attending a
seminar, the minister said that veterinary inspectors had carried out all the
necessary measures and that households continued to keep domestic poultry
indoors.
Cobankovic explained this case was sporadic as the dead swan had been
found at a place which was not a bird reserve. That is why it is not necessary
to implement any drastic measures, he added.
