ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - An H5 avian influenza virus has been found
in a dead swan discovered a week ago on the island of Ciovo near the southern
coastal town of Trogir, Croatia's Agriculture Minister Petar Cobankovic
confirmed on Monday. The swan was found on an unexpected location
along with a dead duck which tested negative for bird flu, Cobankovic said at
an emergency press conference.
The minister said that the N strain of the virus would be known
tomorrow.
Appropriate measures will be taken on the island this evening,
including the setting up of a disinfection barrier on the bridge linking Ciovo
with the mainland, Cobankovic said.
