Kosor says government has majority in parliament, HDZ stable party

Autor: mses
ZAGREB, Oct 24 (Hina) - Croatia's Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader, Jadranka Kosor, has said that the governing coalition definitely has the required majority in the national parliament.

In response to questions by reporters covering an HDZ chestnut party at Bundek Lake in Zagreb on Sunday about the activation of the parliamentary mandate of Ivo Sanader, a former Prime Minister who is now an independent MP after the HDZ expunged him from its membership, Kosor dismissed speculation that Sanader's return might be a thorny issue for the HDZ.

She accused the opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Sanader of being in agreement about the SDP's initiative to seek a no-confidence vote in her government.

Kosor recalled that the SDP filed the no-confidence motion the same day when Sanader's mandate in the parliament was activated.

That is definitely an action aimed at destabilising the government and the HDZ, she said, adding that it would fail.

Kosor described the HDZ as a "truly stable party", dismissing speculations about "sleepers" in her party.

She only briefly commented on her meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor in Lovran as being in accordance with "excellent decisions pertaining to the continuation of (Croatia's) negotiations with the European Union, which we have separated from the border issue".

Kosor said she was confident that three more policy chapters in Croatia's EU membership talks would be closed in November.
