The UN Secretary-General was informed of the law by official note given that the UN is the depository of the international convention on maritime law, the Slovene Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.
By delivering the diplomatic note Slovenia formalised the declaration of the zone, as envisaged by the said UN convention, the press release said, adding that the note underscored that the zone had been declared in accordance with the convention and all other international treaties binding Slovenia.
The press release said Slovenia had defined its rights and the rights of third countries in the protected Slovene zone, and that the demarcation of the state border would be carried out in dialogue with neighbouring states and in accordance with international law.
Ljubljana expects the Secretary-General to notify of the law all UN member states signatories to the international convention on maritime law, the press release said.
