"Since there is no decision either on arbitration or on negotiations, the solution would certainly be in some form of provisional border agreement," he told the press, according to Slovenia's STA news agency.
Under the provisional agreement, the land border would stretch along the line agreed in a deal initialled in 2001 by the two countries' then prime ministers.
Furthermore, Slovenia would be entitled to 80 per cent of Piran/Savudrija Bay and Slovenia's territorial access to the high seas would not be determined so as to avoid incidents in said northern Adriatic area.
Drnovsek said he had discussed his idea with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic as well as mentioned it to Slovene Prime Minister Janez Jansa.
