The Vienna-based Rotary Club has raised 235,000 euros for this purpose and the US government will donate as much through the ITF, while the Croatian government will provide double that amount from the national budget, which will make nearly a million euros, Bernardo Pahor, Karlovac County coordinator of mine removal operations, said at the signing ceremony.
Croatian Mine Action Centre director Otto Jungwirth said that 14,500,000 square metres of land in Karlovac County were strewn with mines after the 1991-1995 Homeland War and that 5,400,000 square metres were left to be cleared.
