SISAK, Jan 28 (Hina) - The Council of the Croatian Mine Action Centre (HCR) on Saturday discussed a report on the implementation of the 2005 Mine Removal Plan, worth some 290 million kuna.

The starting point in the drawing of the plan was 1,174 square kilometres of land which was suspected of being mine-infested. A total of 290.8 million kuna was spent for mine clearance, of which 51 percent came from the state budget, 25 percent from public and other companies, and 24 percent from donors.

A total of 96.7 percent of the 2005 Mine Action Plan was realised, it was said at the session of the HRC Council held in the central town of Sisak.

Only two percent of the donors were from Croatia, which is less than in 2004 when four percent of donors were Croatian or in 2003, when seven percent of donors were from Croatia, the HRC said in a statement.

The 2005 Mine Action Plan was not realised in its entirety due to poor weather conditions in February, April and August.

Four people were killed and nine were injured in ten mine explosions last year, which is less than in 2004 when 14 people were killed and two were injured.
