"I consider President Drnovsek's proposal unacceptable because it restores the situation as it was at the time of the agreement reached with former Croatian PM Ivica Racan, which is not acceptable to anyone in Croatia. I believe this is another attempt at finding a solution before a decision is made to have the issue settled by an international judicial body," Sanader said at a news conference dedicated to the latest proposal by the Slovene president on border delimitation.
Drnovsek proposed on Sunday that the two countries take as a temporary solution to their border dispute an agreement proposing that the land border run along the line as stipulated in the 2001 agreement initialled by Drnovsek and Racan. Under that agreement, Slovenia would get 80 percent of Savudrija Bay and its access to the high seas would not be defined so as to prevent incidents in the bay.
"We will insist on the middle line in Savudrija Bay until a final decision on the matter is made, as decided by the Croatian parliament several years ago. We cannot under any circumstances accept any agreement or proposal that would be against the principle of fairness," Sanader said.
