Croats have 1.6 credit, debit cards per capita - survey

ZAGREB, Jan 29(Hina) - The number of credit and debit cards in Croatiaat the end of September 2005 was 6.99 million or 1.6 cards per capita,an increase of 10 per cent from 2004, according to a Croatian Chamberof the Economy survey.
ZAGREB, Jan 29(Hina) - The number of credit and debit cards in Croatia at the end of September 2005 was 6.99 million or 1.6 cards per capita, an increase of 10 per cent from 2004, according to a Croatian Chamber of the Economy survey.

The number of ATMs went up 13.5 per cent to 2,178, while the number of EFT POS terminals went up 20.2 per cent to 50,213.

The survey was first conducted in 2000, and since January 2002 it is conducted every three months. The latest figures refer to the period through September 2005 and cover 25 banks and card companies.

There are 5.5 million bank-issued debit cards in Croatia, 574,932 bank-issued credit cards, and 826,932 issued by credit card companies.

In the January-September 2005 period, all card transactions totalled 47.8 billion kuna, of which 36.6 billion kuna refers to withdrawal of money and 11.2 billion kuna to payments.

In said period, ATMs recorded 64.4 million transactions to the amount of 39.1 billion kuna or 608.4 kuna per transaction.

Transactions on EFT POS terminals amounted to 14.4 billion kuna or an average 222.74 kuna per transaction.
