Zvonimir Mrsic of the Social Democrats (SDP) asked Prime Minister Ivo Sander if the Government would call elections in cities and municipalities in which councillors changed parties and created new ruling coalitions, thus leading to changes or obstruction of the authority.
"Will the Government call elections or will it continue to use demagogy about who should be given a seat, while your party (the Croatian Democratic Union) is trading with seats across Croatia," Mrsic asked.
Sanader said he considered his question to be the start of the SDP's election campaign.
The PM firmly dismissed the claim that the Government-sponsored bill on local elections was demagogic, saying that it represented the government's firm standpoint which would prevent councillors to submit blank resignations.
