According to the Blic daily, Sutanovac was in Iraq on Thursday for talks with top Iraqi officials on new projects and on the engagement of Serbian construction companies in Iraq.
The minister was quoted by that newspaper as saying that he hoped that the bilateral cooperation would be enhanced immediately after the establishment of the new Iraqi government.
According to a statement carried by the Serbian national broadcaster, Sutanovac said that over the recent years Serbia had made great progress in the production of arms and military equipment as well as in their sales abroad, pointing out Iraq as one of the most important destination for Serbia's export of weaponry.
He said Serbia had the know-how and capacity to build military bases and hospitals in Iraq.
According to Blic, the Serbian export of weaponry and military goods totalled USD 300 million in 2009. It also concluded agreements, worth USD 500 million, in this field. The lion's share of this export is aimed for Iraq, Algeria and Egypt.
