BELGRADE/SARAJEVO, June 29 (Hina) - Charges against Croatian General Branimir Glavas and another 28 Croatian nationals for war crimes against Serb civilians in the northern Bosnian areas of Bosanski Brod and Derventa in 1992 were filed with the Hague-based UN tribunal (ICTY) in 2002, to be transferred back to the prosecution of Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2008, the Belgrade-based Vecernje Novosti reported on Monday.

According to the newspaper, the charges against Glavas and other suspects were lodged with the ICTY in July 2002, and in September 2008 all the relevant documentation was referred to the Office of the Bosnian Chief Prosecutor after the tribunal's investigators carried out a probe and established that there were elements for issuing an indictment against the suspects.

A lawyer representing families of killed and missing Serbs, Predrag Radulovic from Banja Luka, was quoted by Vecernje Novosti as saying that the relevant documentation, which they had forwarded to the judiciary, consisted of 670 pages and some 5,000 documents.

The lawyer said that the public speeches of suspects and their orders from the time and calls for persecution of Serbs should be qualified as genocide, murders, crimes against humanity, and violations of the customs of war.

The Office of Prosecutor in Sarajevo on Monday declined to comment on those allegations.

It is the practice of the Office not to comment on charges lodged with it or on any cases which might presumably be under investigation.
