Most-active March cotton settled 0.25 cent higher at 75.15 cents per pound, traded 75.20 to 74.75 cents. December ended up 0.44 at 73.77, while the deferred contracts settled 0.35 higher to 0.05 lower. Volume was estimated at 5,000 lots. Open interest in the December contract fell 421 lots to 1,357 lots as of Monday. December 6 is the final trading day for the contract. NYCE will be closed Thursday and Friday due to Thursday's Thanksgiving holiday. One floor source noted that the cotton market consolidated for the past two years ahead of Thanksgiving, but then made a decisive move the following week. He said that while the market is well-priced at current levels, it could rally slightly next week as shippers are buying cotton and the funds are still about eight percent net short. 271113 MET nov 96
