The market opened higher but ran into resistance at 67.12 cents a lb in the March contract, leading day traders to liquidate. But by the end of the session, the market edged back up on two-way trading by the commercial dealers. March cotton ended at 67.15 cents a lb, up 0.13 cent from Monday, trading in a range between 67.20 and 66.86 cents a lb. May cotton settled at 68.40 cents a lb, up 0.09 cent. The rest of the market finished up 0.18 to down 0.13 cent. "There was nothing fundamental in the market today," one southern broker said. "If we close the month below 68.00 cent, the market will look pretty bearish on the month monthly chart." Otherwise, the market is expected to maintain its month long 68.50-65.75 cent trading range. "The biggest concern right now is Asia," said one trader. "Obviously if there's lot of concelations, this market is going to look even worse. But until we get more info, this market is likely to move sideways." 311047 MET dec 97
