Potential job losses, restructuring and new strategies, are being talked about because of export problems with sterling so strong. Prices fell between five and 18 pence per kilo, apart from English types, which were unchanged. This was partly because of a slight softening in the main wool markets, but also from softness in the Australian dollar and strength in sterling, leading to lower imported wool costs. The effect of various local holidays was likely to keep business subdued, with cheaper imported competition and an increasingly difficult export situation only adding to this mood. However, some traders are finding more interest after Australia's firmer wool market close on Thursday. 241130 MET oct 97
