Analysts expect the USDA to peg planted cotton area between 13.7-14.3 million acres, below last year's 14.67 million acres. The USDA will issue the report at 0830 EST. Benchmark May closed 0.18 cent higher at 72.83 cents per lb, having ranged from 73.15 to 72.80 cents. The back months ended 0.60 to 0.03 firmer. Traders cited light trade buying early but said activity was extremely dull as many players cut the day short ahead of Good Friday, when NYCE will be closed. Volume was estimated at a light 6,000 lots compared to Wednesday's official 9,489 lots. 281007 MET mar 97
