ZAGREB, Dec 2 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister, Ivo
Sanader, today met his Canadian counterpart Gordon Smith.
The talks focused on the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and
possible developments in the region.
Sanader reaffirmed Croatia's support to the Contact Group
peace plan for Bosnia-Herzegovina, hopeful that a cessation of
hostilities would be achieved as soon as possible.
Smith voiced the international community's concern over a
possible spill-over of conflict to other areas.
He was interested to hear the Croatian Government's views on
the extension of the UNPROFOR mandate, particularly because there
was a Canadian battalion deployed in Croatia.
The two deputy ministers also discussed bilateral relations,
which had considerably improved since the opening of embassies in
Zagreb and Ottawa.
The Croatian community in Canada was an important factor in
promoting friendly relations between the two countries, they said.
