A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, Nov 16 (Hina) - Today's VJESNIK leads with a front-page report on yesterday's Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) central committee meeting under a bold-type headline "Reintegration in January or the Sack for UNPROFOR." Vjesnik quotes President Tudjman as telling the meeting that "Croatian authorities set a November 21 deadline for Knin Serbs to sign an agreement on starting the reintegration process, and if it did not happen Croatia would revoke UNPROFOR's mandate." In an article on a Government report on ownership transfers and privatization, Vjesnik says in part: "A total of 100 criminal charges were laid between 1991 and June 30 this year, most of them related to the misuse of office and authority in the privatization process." The other Zagreb daily, VECERNJI LIST, writes about the interests of France, Britain and Russia in the war in the former Yugoslavia and their support for the ruling regime in Serbia, in a regular commentary titled "Patriotic Whinging." "Antifascism Does Not Mean Going Back to the Old (Communist system)," is the headline of an interview with Antun Vujic, president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) council. "The SDP did not betray Serbs, but those Serbs who betrayed Croatia also betrayed the SDP," Vujic said. Vecernji List discusses the Serb issue in an interview with Vaso Stambolija, a Croatian Serb who sent a letter to President Tudjman several months ago calling for Serb members of Parliament Milan Djukic and Veslin Pejnovic to be replaced because they spread falsehoods about the Serb community in Croatia.
